The Regional Economic Development Pilot Program

REDI i.e The Regional Economic Development through Immigration Pilot Program is a new initiative launched by the Ontario government to address labor shortages and stimulate economic growth in specific rural and northern regions of the province. 

This program is part of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) and is designed to attract up to 800 highly skilled immigrants over its duration from January 2, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

  • The job offer must be full-time and permanent.
  • The position must be in an eligible occupation based in Ontario.
  • The wage offered must meet or exceed the median wage for that occupation.
  • The job should be critical to the employer’s business operations.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Applicants must have at least nine months of work experience in the same occupation within the last three years.
  • A minimum education level of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate language proficiency at a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 4 or higher. If education was completed outside Canada, an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) may be required to validate qualifications.
  1. Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream

This stream is designed for skilled foreign workers who have received a job offer from an employer in one of the targeted regions.

Job Offer Requirements:

  • The job offer must be full-time and permanent.
  • The position should fall under TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3.
  • The wage must comply with or exceed the median wage for that occupation as per Ontario standards.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Candidates must have relevant work experience based on whether their occupation is regulated:
    • If a license is required, candidates must hold a valid license from the appropriate regulatory authority in Ontario.
    • If no license is needed, candidates should have at least two years of work experience in their field within the last five years.
  1. Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream

This stream targets recent graduates from eligible Canadian post-secondary institutions who have job offers from employers in designated regions.

Job Offer Requirements:

  • The job offer must be full-time and permanent, and it should align with the graduate’s field of study.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Applicants must have graduated from an eligible Canadian institution within the last two years.
  • They should demonstrate language proficiency at CLB 4 or higher.
