Canada will give another chance to 700 Indian students who were scammed to study in Canada

Canada will give foreign students who were scammed to study in Canada a chance to explain why they shouldn’t be sent home.

This comes after the Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) sent notices of deportation to over 700 Indian students whose papers of acceptance to schools were found to be fake.

Sean Fraser, Canada’s minister of immigration, said that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) was looking into recent reports of fake acceptance letters.

To be clear, our main goal is to find the people who did wrong, not to punish the victims. Fraser said in a tweet that people who have been scammed will be able to explain their situation and show proof to back up their case.

We know that foreign students bring a lot to our country and are still committed to helping victims of fraud while we look into each case, he said.

Canada is also working closely with schools to make sure that acceptance letters are still valid at the time of application.

Several sources have found that between 2018 and 2022, a study abroad company in Jalandhar filed about 700 fake visa applications for students.

When the students got to Canada, they weren’t given seats and had to get into schools that weren’t as well-known.

After finishing their classes and work requirements, the students applied for permanent residency in Canada and sent in papers to back up their case.

The trouble started when the CBSA looked at the papers on which the students’ visas were based and found that the admission offer letters were fake. All of the students were sent deportation letters after they had a chance to be heard.

Reports said that CBSA officials did not believe the “victims'” claims of innocence because there was no proof that the agent prepared and set up all the papers.

The CBSA also wouldn’t accept that the Canadian visa and airport authorities, who gave them visas and let them in after checking that all their papers were real, had failed.
