First Express Entry invitations for skilled immigrants with STEM experience are announced by IRCC

Express Entry invitations for skilled immigrants: The first STEM round for category-based selection will begin the week of July 5th, according to an announcement made today by the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry.

Candidates with experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), such as data scientists, software developers and programmers, mathematicians, statisticians and actuaries, and electrical and electronic engineers, will be given preference in the draw when invitations are sent out.

With the help of this programme, Canada wants to fulfil the rising demand for STEM talent and fill essential positions that drive the country’s technical and economic development.

This news marks a significant turning point in Canada’s efforts to attract top talent from around the world and maintain its position as a global leader in R&D and innovation.

The news is also in line with the Canadian government’s initiatives to attract and retain the best candidates to alleviate the shortage of STEM workers, building on the Tech Talent Attraction Strategy’s recent debut.

The Honourable Minister Fraser revealed the new Express Entry category-based selection process last month.

By encouraging individuals with particular work experience or fluency in French to seek for permanent residence, category-based choices would improve Francophone immigration by addressing labour demands that serve a stated economic purpose.

“Our nation’s capacity to attract top talent from around the world plays a significant role in Canada’s ability to maintain its position at the forefront of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

With my colleague, Minister Champagne, I’m thrilled to introduce this STEM category-based selection round, which will improve STEM professionals’ access to permanent residency.

We are eager to welcome these creative and brilliant immigrants to our nation. Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, the Hon. Sean Fraser, said.

Additional details will be released in the next few weeks. In addition to the open invitation rounds, category-based selection rounds will continue throughout the year.
