IRCC announces new selection groups for Express Entry candidate

Selection groups for Express Entry candidate: Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, has said that Express Entry applicants will now be chosen by category.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will pay special attention to Express Entry applicants who are fluent in French or have work experience in one of the following fields:

  • Healthcare
  • STEM jobs involve science, technology, engineering, and math.
  • Builders, plumbers, and contractors are examples of tradespeople.
  • Transport
  • Farm and agri-food

The minister says that letting IRCC invite more skilled workers in these chosen professions will help Canada keep its promise to welcome in-demand professionals into communities all over the country.

Here is a full list of all the jobs that qualify under the new groups. The first drawings under the new groups should happen later this summer.

What are the new types of groups of Express Entry candidate?

The new groups are meant to help fill open jobs across Canada. Immigration is seen as a key way to fill jobs and make the French language more important in areas where French is spoken but not as widely as in Quebec.

Fraser states, “I hear it loud and clear from employers across the country that they are having a hard time finding workers.” Modifying Express Entry in this way will guarantee that they have access to the skilled labour force necessary for their continued success.

We can also grow our economy and help companies that are having trouble finding workers. We can also increase the number of candidates who speak French to help keep French-speaking communities alive. Simply put, Canada’s immigration system has never been better at meeting the social and economic needs of the country.

After changes to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act in June 2022, category-based draws were supposed to start this year. Because of the changes, the minister will be able to choose immigrants based on key characteristics that help Canada’s economic goals.

How did the groups get picked?

The categories were chosen because the law says the Minister has to talk to provinces and territories, industry members, unions, employers, workers, worker advocacy groups, settlement provider organizations, immigration researchers, and people who work in immigration.

IRCC will report to Parliament every year on:

  • The groups picked the year before
  • Who picked them and why
  • The rules for setting up a category
  • How many invitations were sent out for each group
